Guilsfield 0 Denbigh Town 1

GUILSFIELD’S inconsistent campaign continued with a disappointing home defeat at the hands of relegation threatened Denbigh Town.

The match was almost postponed when the match official failed to arrive on time due to a broken down vehicle with the game eventually kicking off 50 minutes late.

Guilsfield struggled to get a grip on the game from the opening whistle with home goalkeeper Mike Jones forced into a fine double save to deny Jake Walker after the home defence failed to clear Tony Davies' free-kick.

Denbigh continued to dictate the game with Lewis Sirrell and Kristian Pierce dragging shots wide.

Guilsfield had another let off when Pierce lashed wide of target on half an hour but the villagers held out to head into the interval level.

However two minutes into the second-half and the Guilsfield defence was undone with a long ball releasing Pierce who bravely headed over an advancing Jones and into an unguarded net.

Denbigh continued to dominate as Guilsfield found themselves on the ropes.

Miles Todd released Sirrell who curled just over the bar from 20 yards on the hour and moments later a 25 yard blast from Walker clipped the bar with Jones beaten.

Guilsfield toiled but never seriously threatened an equaliser in a flat and disjointed display.

Denbigh have spent much of the season in the league basement but a confident display almost yielded further reward at Clos Mytton.

Pierce raced onto a long ball from Craig Vernon only to volley over the bar while well positioned but the visitors had already done enough to seal three points.

Defeat dragged the villagers back into the bottom half of the table and just 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
