TIM Iveson and Builth Wells Running Club celebrated Herefordshire Cross Country League glory at the season finale at Nash Wood in Presteigne.

Iveson was unable to complete a clean sweep with the final event of the five race series won by Maldwyn Harrier Joseph Murray of Newtown who toasted a first ever league win with Builth star Iveson in second after 6.8 miles.

Iveson’s brief disappointment was soon erased as he watched his team mates triumph in the team event to be crowned league champions after many years of close misses.

Mike Pfeiffer claimed third with Jonny Pugh ending eighth while Ben Bowen and Steve Hepton claimed top 20 finishes.

Maldwyn Harriers claimed second place in the men’s team championship with Murray followed home by fifth placed Tim Davies while Roger Farrington and Martin Copus ended 12th and 13th respectively.

Meanwhile Bethan Logan won the women’s race in her first season of competition while forming part of the Hay Hotfooters side to claim the team silverware.

Ludlow’s Amy Fulford and Alice Gooding set the pace early on in the 4.4 mile race with the latter leading the event through the woodland section before Logan made her bid for glory with a late surge seeing her cross the line three seconds ahead of her rival.

Logan was joined by her team-mates Aderyn Carter who claimed seventh and ninth placed Sarah Christensen in being crowned league champions for the first in the history of Hay Hotfooters.

Ludlow Runners finished second while Croft Ambrey claimed third spot in the championship.

The Herefordshire Summer Off Road League series will commence in June.
