CAERSWS have boosted their MMP-NL Mid Wales League One title bid with a double signing.

Arriving at the Recreation Ground are Hong Kong international stars Lok Hang and Steven Cheng.

The 19 year old students are currently studying at Oswestry School and made their Welsh football debuts for their new club in a 6-0 win at Churchstoke on Saturday.

The duo have each played for the Hong Kong national under 18s side and took on Australia last year.

The pair also boast extensive playing experience having played in Australia, Mongolia and North Korea before embarking on their adventure in Wales with Caersws.

Player-coach Gareth Jones was delighted with the pair’s arrival.

“Lok is a composed defender and a real class act on the ball while Steven is a central midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball,” said Jones. “Both are very tidy players and these are exciting times for the club.”

Jones added: “Churchstoke away was a baptism of fire for them both but they did well and both played their part in bringing home three points.”

The arrival of Hang and Cheng eases the Bluebirds’ growing injury crisis which threatened to undermine the club’s MMP-NL Mid Wales League One title and promotion bid.

Jones, alongside assistant Dave Jones and manager Mark Griffiths, have targeted bringing the good times back to Caersws.

“Since the turn of the year our squad has been decimated by injury so drafting both players in was crucial to maintain our good run of form,” said Jones.

The title race remains wide open with Caersws and Llanfair United leading the pursuit of leaders Llanidloes Town.

“We will not give in and go all the way until the end of the season,” said Jones. “Whatever happens this season we are re-building and blooding youth mixed with experience to re-ignite this football club.

“The vibe in and around the club has been far more positive than over recent times and we’ll continue to build on that.”
