GEZ Charles starred with four penalty flick saves as Welshpool twice hit back against Penllyn to progress to the next round of the North Wales Women’s Cup.

An end to end clash at the Flash saw Penllyn open the scoring before Danni Andrew volleyed Pool back on terms.

Captain Sonja Evans led Pool by example with a host of goal line clearances.

Penllyn regained the lead only for Beth Wyn Williams to strike for the hosts and ensure penalty flicks.

Andrew and Hayley Tanner both converted for the hosts with Charles saving four penalties in reply to seal Pool’s progress.

Newtown also sealed their progress with Heidi Langford starring with a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Ruthin at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.

Clare Bonsall and a first ever senior goal from Katie Wilson ensured Newtown a place in the next round.

However Llanfair Caereinion’s cup hopes ended with a 5-0 defeat against double chasing Dysynni.

Meanwhile Newtown were held to a 2-2 draw at Telford IIs in the West Midland Men’s Premier League with the Welsh side hitting back from an early two goal deficit thanks to an Oscar Crutchley double.

Newtown were also in action on Sunday with another Crutchley brace featuring in a 4-2 defeat at Tamworth with the visitors going close through Tom Hillage and Gareth Preece before the Midlands hosts sealed glory late on.
