MONTGOMERY Town stand on the cusp of the MMP-NL Mid Wales League Two title following a 3-0 win victory over Hay St Marys.

Goals from Charlie Jellett, Damian Mann and man of the match Tom Evans sealed a 12th consecutive victory for the Canaries to the delight of manager Scott Williams.

Williams said: “It was a massive game and our lads rose to the challenge. We dictated the game from start to finish.

“Hay are a fantastic youthful side and we have no doubt they are destined for success with a bright future ahead while the game was a great advert for Mid Wales football.”

In the only other MMP-NL Mid Wales League Two game of the day Presteigne boosted their bid to climb away from the basement with a 3-2 win at home to Borth United.

Goals from Jamie Davies, Josh Griffiths and Kieran Barnett gave Presteigne a commanding lead before replies from Jamie Evans and Bryn McGilligan-Oliver set up a tense finale with the hosts holding out for glory.

The previous evening Dolgellau Athletic celebrated a 2-0 derby win over Aberystwyth University at Park Avenue courtesy of goals from Dion Jones and Owain Williams.

Meanwhile quarter-finals of the ER Jenkins Cup took centre stage on Saturday.

Four Crosses were handed a bye after Aberystwyth University conceded their tie .

Elsewhere goals from Jack Weaver and Ricky Davies cancelled Alun Williams’ opener as Abermule booked a semi-final date with a 2-1 win at Dyffryn Banw.

Newbridge also claimed a place in the last four with goals from Ollie Woods, Lyndon Jones and Dai Thomas settling a 3-1 win at home to Waterloo Rovers who remained in contention through Charlie Proctor.

Meanwhile Rhayader Town needed penalties to see off the challenge of Machynlleth after the sides scrapped out a 2-2 draw at the Weirglodd.

Aaron Bates and Jamie Evans strikes for the Red Kites were cancelled out by replies from Machynlleth’s Andrew Page and Sion Williams before the hosts prevailed on spot kicks.
