LLANIDLOES were made to work before clinching a 37-22 victory at home to Welshpool in North Wales League Two.

The match was contested as a double header and also served as a quarter-final of the Cambrian Training Mid Wales Cup.

Following a jaded opening the hosts found their rhythm and led when fly-half Dafydd Duggan ghosted through to cross fir a try, converted by Carwyn Williams.

Pool hit back with Harry Davies kicking a penalty before Ryan Goodwin crossed the whitewash.

Llanidloes regained the lead with No8 Dick Jones going over for a try before captain Paul Jehu also crossed with Williams landing one conversion and penalty.

However defensive lapses in the home rearguard allowed Welshpool back in the game with a try from Ryan Manuel before the break.

A similarly impressive start to the second-half led to Goodwin crossing the line following an interception.

Llanidloes were not to be denied and sealed glory with tries from Huw Owen and Rhys Owen, one of which being converted by Williams, before a drop goal from Duggan settled the outcome.

Meanwhile COBRA maintained their title bid with a hard fought 17-10 win at Rhyl.

The Meifod side led when flanker Chris Morris crossed for the opening try with Will Worthington converting and kicking a penalty before Rhyl responded with wing Reeve Wright crossing for a try

Reeve crossed for a second try after the break to restore parity but COBRA were not to be denied and with time ebbing away replacement Rhodri Jones released centre Iwan Vaughan who offloaded to No8Jack Jukes to cross the whitewash with Worthington converting.

Elsewhere Machynlleth’s third division promotion bid faltered in a 14-10 defeat at Flint.

Two tries from Gerwyn Coleman proved scant consolation for the Mid Wales side as the Deesiders held out for a slender victory.
