Newtown 3 Caernarfon Town 2

ALEX Fletcher struck an 83rd minute winner as Newtown celebrated a return to winning ways and silenced the Caernarfon Town travelling faithful.

The high octane clash set its tone early with Rio Ahmadi lobbing inches over the bar after being released by Craig Williams.

Caernarfon enjoyed plenty of possession and a succession of corners with Leo Smith curling wide as the home defence stood firm early on.

Newtown over signs of their own threat with Luke Boundford firing wide before Sam Phillips forced goalkeeper Nick Bould into action.

On 32 minutes the hosts led when Williams dipped a left wing corner under the bar.

Caernarfon rallied with Darren Thomas denied by a brave save at his feet from goalkeeper Jack Perry before former Newtown youngster Jamie Breese fired wide.

Caernarfon carried the momentum into the second-half and turned the game around with two goals in a nine minute spell.

Sion Bradley seized upon a defensive lapse to break and slot under Perry on 51 minutes and with Newtown still reeling Breese crossed from the right for Thomas to slot home on the hour.

However with Caernarfon still celebrating the home side stormed back to level with Ahmadi heading home his second goal in three appearances since joining from Aberystwyth Town last month.

Both sides had chances as the match entered its final stages with Thomas a constant runner at the home defence while failing to test Perry.

Glory would belong to Newtown and with seven minutes remaining Nick Rushton teed up Fletcher to sweep a curling strike from the edge of the area beyond Bould.

Caernarfon still had time to get back into the game but Newtown were not to be denied with victory getting their hopes of a top four finish back on track.
