Llanrhaeadr 2 Penrhyncoch 1

LLANRHAEADR staged a second-half fightback to maintain their revival against 10 man Penrhyncoch.

Despite making the trip without a recognised goalkeeper the visitors almost led early when Steff Davies rattled the woodwork.

Llanrhaeadr threatened with Sam Thomas’ shot blocked before Iwan Matthews and Marc Griffiths spurned openings.

Penrhyn led on 17 minutes with Jon Foligno flicking on Antonio Corbisiero’s free-kick for Davies to slot home.

Both sides had spells during the remainder of the half with Jonny Evans’ shot deflected wide while Matthews’ and Khyam Wytton’s headed efforts forced goalkeeper Cledan Davies into action.

Evans could have doubled Penrhyn’s lead early in the second-half only for goalkeeper Jimmy Hayns to save well at his feet.

Llanrhaeadr levelled soon after with Thomas’ free-kick parried by Davies with Joe Vaughan following up to head home.

Disaster struck for Penrhyn when Evans earned his second caution to receive his marching orders on the hour.

Llanrhaeadr capitalised and led for the first time on 72 minutes as Wytton pounced on a defensive lapse to net.

Llanrhaeadr could have added to their tally with player-manager Griffiths’ header forcing Davies into action late on but his side had already done enough to seal the points.
