LLANFAIR United’s hold on the Central Wales Women’s Cup ended at the hands of Aberystwyth Town.

The sides met in last season’s cup final when United prevailed but the South Wales League side were not to be denied their revenge with a 2-0 quarter final victory at Mount Field.

The match hung in the balance until the 55th minute when the Seasiders broke the deadlock through Kelly Thomas.

United toiled in an effort to get back into the tie but were dealt a hammer blow when Tania Wylde doubled Aberystwyth’s lead with 12 minutes remaining.

Defeat ended Llanfair’s bid to complete a clean sweep of silverware but the Montgomeryshire side still have plenty to play for this season with the North Wales League and North East Wales Cup still up for grabs.
