LLANFAIR Caereinion endured a day to forget with an 11-1 thrashing at the hands of Ardudwy in the North Wales Women’s League.

Delyth Thomas’ strike proved scant consolation for the hosts who were swallowed under an avalanche of goals at the other end with hat-tricks from Jenna Gallagher, Cari Davies and Heledd Rowlands along with singles from Siwan Jones and Jacqui Smith.

Meanwhile a solitary strike from Clare Bonsall earned Newtown derby glory in a 1-0 win at home to Welshpool on Sunday.

Welshpool’s defence was led by the outstanding Rose Williams which ensured Newtown could not capitalise on their territory and possession with the game becoming a midfield battle.

However Bonsall was not to be denied with an unstoppable strike from a penalty corner breaking Welshpool’s resolve.

Welshpool spokesman Gez Charles remained upbeat despite defeat, saying: “ We were really pleased with the performance and it was a pleasant game for a local derby.”

Elsewhere Presteigne tasted a heavy 6-0 defeat at Swansea City in Premier League Two of the South Wales Women’s League.

Radnor also tasted a 3-1 defeat at home to Gowerton in the first division with Hayley Price levelling only for the visitors to snatch glory with two late strikes.

Meanwhile Powys hosts a series of hockey camps during the forthcoming half term.

The Hockey Wales organised events will take place at Brecon Leisure Centre on Monday, February 25, Llandrindod Wells Leisure Centre on Tuesday, February 26 and Welshpool’s Flash Leisure Centre on Wednesday, February 27.

The events begin at 10am and finish at 3pm and open to all children aged between seven and 13.
