Flint Town United 2 Llanrhaeadr 1

LLANRHAEADR handed Flint Town United a fright before slipping to defeat in Deeside.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Hayns was forced into an early save to deny Mark Cadwallader before the villagers snatched a shock 12th minute lead with new signing Matt Jones releasing Iwan Matthews to net.

Llanrhaeadr continued to impose themselves and could have doubled their lead when Matthews teed up Tom Evans whose curling effort struck the woodwork.

Marc Griffiths also came close to adding to his side’s lead before half-time with his headed effort forcing goalkeeper Aaron Jones into action.

Griffiths was also in the thick of the action after the break with a goalline clearance to deny Richie Foulkes whose header had left Hayns rooted.

However Flint were soon celebrating their equaliser with Jake Hampson’s free-kick powerfully headed home by new signing Dimitri Christou to stir the hosts.

The remainder of the contest was an even affair with Matthews steering Khyam Wytton’s cross goalward only to be denied by Jones.

Flint led for the first time on the hour with a long range blast from Kyle Smith spilled by Hayns with Cadwallader following up to net.

Hayns produced a stunning double save moments later with a fine save from Smith before bravely denying Ben Burrows with the follow up effort.

Llanrhaeadr had their own chances with Griffiths denied by a brave save at his feet from Jones.

With 15 minutes remaining Matthews’ audacious 20 yard chip dipped onto the bar as Flint survived.

Flint were reduced to 10 men with eight minutes remaining with Burrow stupidly kicking Joe Vaughan following a firm challenge to deservedly earn his marching orders.

A frantic finale saw Griffiths fire wide while Wytton steered Matthews’ cross wide for Llanrhaeadr while Flint could have snatched a third at the death only fort Luke Blondel to blaze over from six yards.
