FORDEN United boosted their J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One title bid with a 2-0 win against Bishops Castle Town.
The match was switched to Newtown Football Club’s Latham Park to ensure the fixture survived the anticipated weekend cold snap and both sides played their part in a fine advert for the league.
United sealed the points courtesy of goals from Ryan Jenkins and new signing Joe Evans to ensure they remained in title contention while leaving a dent in Castle’s own bid.
Meanwhile Guilsfield Reserves maintained their six point lead at the top of the table with a convincing 4-1 win at home to Trewern United.
Dan Williams and Harry Garthwaite shared the limelight with both completing doubles while recent signing Byron Edwards bagged a consolation for the Tigers.
Meanwhile the remainder of the J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League programme and the Tanners Town Cup semi-final between Waterloo Rovers Reserves and Maesyrhandir fell foul to the weather as the region thawed following midweek snow.
