CARLTON Brick has been selected to represent Scotland in the forthcoming 2019 International Taekwondo Federation European Championships in Italy.

The former John Beddoes School student of Presteigne whose parents live in Knucklas will fly out to Rimini with his Scottish team-mates with the tournament taking place on April 2-8.

Brick attended the Presteigne school from 1978 to 1986 and relocated to Scotland in 2002 to take up a position at the University of the West of Scotland.

Brick began Taekwondo in 2013 after taking his son, also a black belt, to the Steven McLaren Martial Arts school in Helensburgh.

He gained his 1st Dan black belt in 2016 and hopes to sit his 2nd Dan test following the completion of the 2019 European Championships in April.

Brick has competed and won medals at national level as a coloured belt but this will be his first black belt competition and first time representing Scotland with the Welsh raised martial artist competing in the men’s Veteran Gold category.

Participation in the event is self-funded with all donations used to support the team’s travel and hotel expenses for the duration of the championships.
