WELSHPOOL Town won the Quartix Mid and North Powys Winter U16s League with a 1-0 win over Bishops Castle Town on Saturday.

Victory assured the Lilywhites the title with the triumphant squad joined by coaches Awi Williams and Jon Higgins in celebrating glory while Jim Ellis and Chris Morris consoled their Castle battlers.

The sides went into the game level pegging at the top of the table with 11 points to set up a winner takes all clash with Welshpool just coming out on top.

League organiser Paul Inns said: “It was a thrilling climax to the under 16s Winter League season.

“Credit to Welshpool who came out on top in an entertaining match and of course commiserations to Bishops Castle on this occasion.”

The Winter League has now concluded for another year with the action resuming in the Mid and North Powys Junior League calendar.
