CALLUM Preston has arrived in the JD Welsh Premier after signing for Aberystwyth Town.

The 23 year old former Welshpool High School student arrives at Park Avenue having been without a club since leaving Wrexham last year.

The Stafford born stopper was on the books of English Premier League giants Liverpool and Welsh Premier champions TNS before joining Birmingham City on a scholarship in 2012.

Preston failed to break into the senior ranks at St Andrews and had spells at National League North side Worcester City and English League Two side Crawley Town before spells at English non league sides Altrincham and Wrexham before opting the depart the latter in order to pursue a broadcasting and sports writing degree in 2018.

The Mid Wales raised star also represented Wales at under 19s level with an appearance against Montenegro in 2014.

Preston will contend the No1 jersey with veteran goalkeeper Terry McCormick who has been the club’s sole senior goalkeeper since the departure of Chris Mullock to Bangor City in the summer and Lee Jenkins’ return to Huws Gray Alliance side Penrhyncoch following a brief spell as the Seasiders regular.

Preston will link-up with his new team-mates this weekend when Nathaniel MG Cup winners Cardiff Metropolitan arrive in the fourth round of the JD Welsh Cup.
