Rhyl 3 Llanrhaeadr 1

LLANRHAEADR failed to complete the double over Rhyl who maintained their formidable form with a battling win at Belle Vue.

Mike Pritchard and Barry Torrence went close before James Murphy was fouled in the area only to fire wide from the spot inside the opening quarter as Rhyl underlined their confidence.

However it was the villagers who led against the run of play with Tom Bailey heading home Iain Edmunds' left wing cross on 28 minutes.

Rhyl replied just three minutes later with Torrence beating goalkeeper Jimmy Hayns to a long ball to head into an empty net and restore parity.

Rhyl continued to dominate with Pritchard and Murphy testing Hayns toward the end of the half.

The second-half was just four minutes old when Hayns spilled Gareth Partridge's cross into the path of Pritchard who lashed home from 18 yards to give Rhyl the lead for the first time.

Llanrhaeadr remained in contention with Iwan Matthews charging down a a clearance from goalkeeper Rory Crowther only for the loose ball to bounce agonisingly wide.

Khyam Wytton also tested Crowther as Llanrhaeadr enjoyed their best spell of the game.

Rhyl looked to kill the game but Partridge was denied by the woodwork before Hayns denied Murphy and Aaron Hassall.

Rhyl lived on their luck with Edmunds' cross causing chaos in the home area only for Joe Sullivan to clear off the line before the hosts sealed glory at the death with Murphy released by Hassall to round Hayns and net from a tight angle.
