THE second round of the Central Wales Cup takes centre stage this weekend.

On Friday night Berriew host Churchstoke at Talbot Field with 12 fixtures on Saturday, including the Spa derby between Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells and Forden United’s home test with MMP-NL Mid Wales League One side Caersws.

Berriew manager David Jones said: "We were pleased to be drawn at home as the CWFA Cup is a competition we want to go far in this season, however while Churchstoke have struggled in the league so far this season they will look to the cup for a bit of respite so we will have to make sure we are at our best."

Defender Marc Jones returns from a one game suspension however teenagers Tomos Williams and Ismail Ozdemir are unavailable.

Other intriguing ties include Llangedwyn’s clash at home to Watson Financial Mid Wales League South leaders Talgarth Town while Tywyn Bryncriug entertain ambitious Montgomeryshire League side Trewern United.

Trewern manager Nathan Jones said: "We are looking forward to testing ourselves against a higher level team. Hopefully we will put in a solid performance and give a good account of ourselves and the league."

Newbridge will look to bounce back from a wobble in league form with Abermule visiting Penbont Field.

A club spokesman said: "We’re hoping to get back to winning ways after defeat to Monty in the league but also see it as an opportunity to give boys who haven’t played as much some game time."

Matty Meredith is back from holiday while James Spooner will make his debut in goal for the Bridgemen.

Elsewhere Bishops Castle Town travel to Four Crosses aiming to complete an upset.

Spokesman Lee Davies said: "It will be a tough test for the lads but it will be good to see where we are at and we expect some good football to be played from both sides."

Meanwhile Llanidloes Town host Penrhyncoch on Sunday with the latter playing two games in 24 hours.

The action continues on Wednesday night with Guilsfield hosting Radnor Valley while Rhayader Town entertain Llanrhaeadr.
