KNIGHTON Town have applied for promotion back to the MMP-NL Mid Wales League.

The Radnorshire club quit MMP-NL Mid Wales League One in September following a summer exodus of players which left new manager Adriano Girolami to rebuild with a young squad.

The club suffered several heavy defeats before being joined by Brecon Northcote in quitting the MMP-NL Mid Wales League for a return to the Watson Financial Mid Wales League South.

The club has since steadied the ship under the vastly experienced Girolami who has previous managerial experience at both Presteigne and Newbridge in the Mid Wales League set-up.

The Radnor Robins have endured a turbulent recent history with the club falling and climbing through the pyramid sporadically over the years having played as high as the Huws Gray Alliance from 1993 to 1998.

Since the club has ebbed between the Mid Wales League and Mid Wales League South while developing facilities at their Bryn-Y-Castell ground to ensure themselves eligible for promotion.

Knighton Town are joined by Montgomeryshire League duo Forden United and Trewern United in applying for promotion.

The application of Montgomeryshire League side Bishops Castle Town has been rejected with the English border club ineligible while the Mid Wales League is affiliated to the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

However with the Mid Wales League set to lose its affiliated league status after 2020 the Manor Ground club could finally be set to attain the promotion to a level the border club has long aspired only to be denied.
