JAMES Potter enjoyed contrasting fortunes during the festive racing programme.

The Welshpool based owner watched Mister Fisher raced to victory at the King George Meeting at Kempton on Boxing Day with the 7/2 bet crossing the line to win the 32Red Casino Novices Hurdle.

The Nicky Harrison trained four year old bay gelding was ridden to a second career victory with Nico de Boinville tracking the leader before passing Rouge Vif and Thomas Darby for glory.

However just a day later the Welshpool based horse owner watched Top Gamble fall in the Download the Coral App Handicap Chase in Chepstow.

The course holds special memories for Potter and Presteigne trainer Kerry Lee having won the 2015 Welsh National when Jamie Moore rode Mountainous to a famous victory.

The 11 year old Top Gamble, co-owned by James and Jean Potter of Welshpool and Walters Plant Hire, lined up in one of the support races to the Welsh National on the biggest weekend of the Welsh racing calendar.

However the Kerry Lee trained horse fell with five hurdles remaining while placed sixth with Doitforthevillage taking a 7/1 victory followed by Dusky Lark and Touch Kick on a disappointing day for Top Gamble fans.
