FORDEN United and Trewern United have applied for promotion to the MMP-NL Mid Wales League.

The J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One clubs have both targeted elevation to division two of the MMP-NL Mid Wales League next season.

The 2019/20 season will be the last of the two tier Mid Wales League with a Football Association of Wales (FAW) restructure meaning Central Wales, the largest area association in Wales, will no longer be represented in the Welsh football pyramid.

Uncertainty surrounds the future of the Mid Wales League One which will not continue in its present form at level four while the second division is to disband.

As it stands next season will be the last of the second division which was formed in 2010, along with access to FAW grant aid for ground improvements for the majority of clubs who fail to meet criteria for the new tier three leagues to be launched in 2020/21.

Such uncertainly has not dissuaded the Welshpool area duo from underlining their ambitions by both tendering their applications to make the step up having both been reformed in recent years.

Trewern manager Nathan Jones said: “We are always looking to progress and joining the Mid Wales League is the next step.”

Forden United manager Jonny Roberts said: “The club is ambitious to play at the highest level we can and hope we can take the step into the Mid Wales League next season.”

League secretary Phil Woosnam invited further applications to be made before the December 31 deadline.

“We welcome all applications,” said Woosnam who can be contacted at Mafeking, Triangle, Cwmdauddwr, Rhayader, Powys, LD6 5AR with a cheque for £50.
