GUILSFIELD manager Nathan Leonard reckons last week’s JD Welsh Cup heroics can galvanise his side’s top six ambitions.

Guilsfield travel to lowly Prestatyn Town on Saturday with confidence soaring.

The Guils took holders Connahs Quay Nomads to extra-time after leading 2-0 before crashing to a 4-2 defeat on Saturday.

Leonard said “It was an unbelievable performance from everyone. From start to finish we gave them everything and I couldn’t be prouder. We can hold our heads high.

“To go toe to toe with the welsh premier leaders for 120 minutes is a huge compliment to the lads and one we will look to kick on from for the rest of the season.

“We are disappointed but they have so much quality they were always in the game.”

Leonard’s only complaint was the refereeing performance and felt striker Steve Blenkinsop was not protected.

“I’m sure the referee didn’t want to upset them knowing full well he will see them again this season,” said Leonard. “It was staggering how many times Steve Blenkinsop was fouled and nothing was given. In saying that the referee did not cost us the game and it was more a case of their quality when we tired.”

Leonard expected a battle at Prestatyn who are battling for their lives at the bottom,

“If we play like we have the last three games I expect us to get three points and start kicking on in the league. Things seem to finally be clicking on the pitch and with everyone back to full fitness we can look forward to seeing the real Guilsfield.”

Meanwhile Llanrhaeadr welcome Porthmadog to Llansantffraid with defender Glenn Evans suspended.

Manager Marc Griffiths insisted his side had nothing to lose against one of the Huws Gray Alliance top sides.

“Porthmadog are a very good side,” said Griffiths. “They play good football but also do the ugly stuff very well too. We see games like this as a free hit and a chance to pull off a shock.”

Llanrhaeadr maintained fitness levels with a 4-1 win at Llansantffraid in the MP Foulkes Montgomeryshire Cup in midweek.

Penrhyncoch return to action with a visit from Buckley Town.

The Roosters continue to languish in the lower reaches following a testing start to the season with a shortage of goals representing their chief problem.

Without a league win since September, manager Gari Lewis knows his side need to start picking up points or risk being dragged into the dogfight.

Jonny Evans has returned to Cae Baker following a brief spell at Borth United while Josh Shaw is back to fitness.

Lewis said: “We looked a lot brighter in our last game against Gresford. The Boys put in a good shift and we saw some good signings.

“We looked more of a threat in attack and solid at the back so if we can score a few more then we can be a match for most in this league.”

Meanwhile long serving defender Elian Evans has departed Cae Baker to join South Wales League One side Ammanford.

Penrhyncoch are also in midweek derbt action with a trip to Mid Wales rivals Guilsfield in store on Wednesday night.
