NEWTOWN Pool players have got into the festive spirit with a charity match held at the Monty Club last weekend.

A total of £500 was raised with all proceeds going toward the Newtown Salvation Army Christmas Toy Appeal and Plas Cae Crwn Care Home.

The Mid Wales Stoves Newtown Pool League is recognised as the premier pool league in Wales with a host of county and international stars competing weekly.

The charity match was organised by Rich Evans and saw a team of senior players, aged 35 or over, take on a side selected from younger players who ran out 42-33 winners.

Representatives from both the Newtown Salvation Army and Newtown’s Plas Cae Crwn Care Home received cheques for £250 from league chairman Mike Williams and organiser Rich Evans.

Evans said: “It was a great day and well supported. Thanks to all the players who took part and helped raise funds for two such worthwhile causes.

“Newtown Pool League will now look to make this charity event an annual one.”
