PRESTATYN Sports put in a spirited display before eventually falling to a 2-0 loss at Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders Llangefni Town.

The newly promoted side can be hugely encouraged by their performance against the title favourites despite having nothing to show for their efforts, with Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side now occupying tenth spot in the third-tier standings ahead of their home clash with Greenfield on Saturday (2pm).

The home side controlled possession for long periods of the opening exchanges but they found it hard to break through the resolute Sports rearguard, who were marshalled superbly by skipper Shane Middleman throughout.

They did manage to break the deadlock on 31 minutes when prolific forward Kevin Lloyd unleashed a thunderbolt from just outside the area that flew into the net to put the in-form hosts ahead.

This was followed by a second which arrived at the perfect time through another outstanding player in Cefni’s formidable front-line, with Liam Morris the beneficiary of some exceptional approach play to double their tally after reacting first to a shot that rattled the crossbar a minute before the interval.

After the break saw the away side pick themselves up and fight their way back into the contest, and although they did not have a goal to show for their improved performance they more than held their own against Chris Roberts’ side, who are widely tipped to achieve multiple honours at the end of the season in addition to an elusive promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.
