NEWTOWN Football Club is heading out into the community.

The JD Welsh Premier club has been selected for the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAWT) ‘More than a club’ programme.

A total of 42 clubs across Wales will take part in the ‘bespoke enterprise, mentoring and coaching programme’ offering clubs ideas and support on issues such as attracting players, recruiting volunteers, generating income and increased community engagement.

Clubs have been selected based on their desire and willingness to change and grow and will benefit from the programme for the next 12 months.

Earlier this month first team player Neil Mitchell led a coaching session at Maesyrhandir Primary School before helping Newtown to a 1-1 draw against league champions TNS at Latham Park.

The club has also visited the town’s Hafren School to deliver an anti-racism workshop.

Club spokesman Barry Gardner hoped the club’s selection in the programme would help the Robins achieve their goals.

With the club unbeaten at home in the JD Welsh Premier and in contention for a place in the top six and a crack at the Europa League play-offs these are exciting times at Latham Park.

The club is also embracing the festive spirit with a match ticket giveaway for the forthcoming visit of Llandudno.

The Robins have six free match tickets on offer for local charities and community groups ahead of the December 15 clash.
