LLANFAIR United returned to the top of the North Wales Women’s League with a 3-1 victory at home to Bethel.

The Gwynedd side started on top and deservedly led on 10 minutes with Ffion Williams crashing a half volley beyond goalkeeper Tracey Godsell.

In comparison the hosts took their time to find their momentum and looked to Sarah Ellis to provide spark on the right.

United were level on the break with Elen Pugh releasing Mary Griffiths to slot past the advancing goalkeeper.

The hosts were unrecognisable after the break with fine passing football causing Bethel no end of problems with Liann Richards and Gemma Jones joining Griffiths in going close.

Bethel almost regained the lead with 15 minutes remaining only for the home side to survive a scramble in the area and goalline block.

United were galvanised and almost immediately were ahead with Jones impeded the area with Griffiths keeping her cool to slot home from the penalty spot.

Griffiths completed her player of the match performance in the dying seconds with a lofted finish from the edge of the area sealing her hat-trick.
