LLANGEFNI Town reached the JD Welsh Cup third round with an emphatic 5-1 home rout over St Asaph City.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders wasted no time in making an impact and went ahead on six minutes when Matthew Jones found the net, and Liam Morris doubled Cefni’s advantage with 13 on the clock.

Prolific forward Kevin Lloyd took advantage of some hesitant defending to add a third after 31 minutes, before the away side were given a glimmer of hope in first-half stoppage time when Paul Fleming reduced the arrears.

That was as good as it got for Daniel Brewerton’s men, with the home side restoring their three-goal cushion on 74 minutes when Morris pounced for his second of the afternoon after another period of pressure.

There was still time for the hosts to rub salt into the Saints’ wounds, and another outstanding attacking move presented a chance to Alan Mark Owen, and the burly striker made no mistake with the finish to complete the rout.

Nantlle Vale turned in a heroic effort before eventually falling to a last-gasp 4-3 loss at Guilsfield.

The third tier side made a sensational start and went in two goals to the good thanks to efforts from Gerwyn Williams and Rhys Allen, but the Guils’ got back on level terms after the break when Andrew Ford and Robbie James both netted in quick succession.

Vale regained the advantage after 69 minutes when Daniel Evans converted a chance, only for Callum Morris to level once again with 79 on the clock.

There was still time for further drama which arrived in the dying moments when the home side were awarded a spot-kick, and Jack Harris held his nerve to put away the penalty and send Vale out in the cruellest of fashions.
