FOUR Crosses and Llanymynech go head to head at Foxen Manor in the first round of the Central Wales Cup on Saturday.

With both sides using the nearby Cross Keys public house as base the cup derby provides further intrigue.

Crosses manager Mike Barton said: “We are looking forward to it and hoping to give a few of the squad some minutes. We need to bounce back after the loss to Waterloo last week.”

Steve Pugh and Emlyn Williams are both added to the Crosses squad following injury lay-offs.

Elsewhere Rhayader Town face a stiff test at Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League One leaders Penparcau.

Spokesman Dai Davies said: “We are looking forward to playing Penparcau. It’s a bit of a game from the old Mid Wales League.

“We realise it will be a tough test as they building a really strong squad as their results are showing.

“We will be looking to give a few players a run out after injury, including our captain Joe Wozencraft who is back in contention after six weeks out.”

Newbridge travel to Dyffryn Banw without top scorer Ollie Woods and key defender Eddie Hammond but boosted by the return of Lewis Pugh, Henry McCarthy-Allen and Matt Meredith back in contention.

A club spokesman said : “We are really happy with where we are at the moment with huge improvements since the start of the season, especially in defence.

“We have a poor record against Banw but we have won our last five league games and hoping to take this form into the cup.”

Other ties: Llandysul v Dolgellau; Aberystwyth University v Llansantffraid; Talgarth v Newcastle Emlyn; Borth United v Llanilar.

Meanwhile Machynlleth host Forden United with a date to be confirmed.
