LLANFAIR United bid to cause a second round upset when Porthmadog visit Mount Field in the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday (1.30).

United host the Huws Gray Alliance side having enjoyed several classic battles during their time in the second tier.

Manager Rhys Stephens backed his side to cause another upset having climbed the MMP-NL Mid Wales League One table while also beating leaders Caersws in their own back yard.

Stephens hoped for a bumper gate as United bid to turn Mount Field into a cauldron of noise with a place in the third round at stake.

“It’s a really tough game against a top quality team,” said Stephens. “We will be looking to cause another upset but know how difficult an ask that will be. We can take confidence in our recent form.”

United go into the tie with a full squad with the exception of Andrew Hughes.

Berriew hit the road for Huws Gray Alliance strugglers Prestatyn Town with manager Dave Jones adamant their hosts are better than their league position suggests.

“Prestatyn are currently towards the bottom of the Alliance but it is a bit of a false position as they are on an upward curve having re-appointed Neil Gibson as manager.”

The Seasiders have strengthened since Gibson’s return from a brief stint as coach at Connahs Quay Nomads with Jones expecting a tough day as Bastion Road.

“It will be a tough ask but we are on a good run of form and I am confident the lads will put in a good performance,” said Jones.

Charlie Humphreys and George Mitten both made comebacks from injury last week to boost the Rhiewsiders who are without the unavailable Rhys Stephens,

Caersws complete MMP-NL Mid Wales League representation with Mark Griffiths taking his side to Huws Gray Alliance side Rhyl.

The Bluebirds upset the odds with an extra-time fightback and victory over Holywell Town in the previous round but since their league form has faltered.

Elsewhere Guilsfield welcome Welsh Alliance One side Nantlle Vale to Clos Mytton with manager Nathan Leonard underlining the importance of a cup run.

“We are out of the league cup while our league form has been up and down and not helped by injuries,” said Leonard who is sweating on several injury doubts.

“Whatever team I put out I’ll be expecting 100 per cent and hopefully our ability will them get us the win,” said Leonard.

“They will come with no fear on the back of a good run so we will have to be at our best if we want to be in the hat for the next round.”
