CHAZ Davies claimed second place in the World Superbike Championships (WSBK) following an anti climactic weekend in Qatar.

The Presteigne star went into the final weekend of the season with second place in the riders’ championship within his grasp.

However Davies endured a frustrating first race in Losail with the Aruba.it Racing Ducati rider struggling to eighth spot in race one.

Davies was among a crop of riders misled by a wrong message on the display over the finishing line, making a farce of the final round of the season.

The second race was cancelled due to thunderstorms to leave Davies to celebrate second place with 356 points behind champion Jon Rea of Kawasaki.

Davies said: “Safety must come first, even though it’s a bit anticlimactic and I’m sorry for the fans here at the track and at home, but to cancel the race was the right decisiony.

“We sealed second in the championship, I’m very happy about that, and most of all I’m really excited about a new challenge with the V4 next season. I can’t wait to ride it in a couple of weeks.”

The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team will resume action at Aragon in Spain on November 14-15 for Davies’ first test with the Panigale V4.
