NEWTOWN bid to vent their Nathaniel MG Cup frustrations while boosting their push for a place in the top six of the JD Welsh Premier at Cefn Druids tonight (Friday).

The Robins were the victims of a cup quarter-final shock in Tonypandy on Tuesday night as South Wales League One side Cambrian Clydach prevailed 1-0 winners.

Manager Chris Hughes said: “It was disappointing. First half we had a little bit of pressure from them earlier on and then I thought we went into the game and offered good opportunities.

“Our final ball was probably lacking and then we never really got going in the second half and we made some unforced errors.

“The game looked to be going into extra time but all credit to them They took their chance and went through.

“It’s disappointing for us because it is a cup competition we wanted to do well in but now it is important we react and bounce back.”

Hughes was full of confidence ahead of the trip to the Rock having further underlined their top six credentials with a 1-1 draw at home to TNS last week.

“Whatever side we put out will be a strong one because we’ve got a good squad now,” said Hughes.

“Everyone’s home form quite strong this season so Druids will be no different.

“They did really well last year and probably massively overachieved. They are probably not where they want to be but I’m sure they’ll be targeting our game and thinking it is a game they can get back on track.

“We’ll have to be ready for that and we will approach the game in a positive manner and looking to come away with all three points.

“Our last three away performances have been really positive and we need to ensure we keep that going at Cefn Druids on Friday evening.”
