NATALIE Powell won the fifth Grand Slam medal of her career with -78kg silver in Abu Dhabithis week.
Powell won the event in 2017 and arrived aiming to defend her title.
However the Builth Wells judoka lost to Dutch star Guusje Steenhuis in the final but was boosted by 700 points toward Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification as well as confidence boost ahead of the end of year Masters.
Powell said: “I was pleased with my performance and was happy that things I’d been working on over the last few months came through on the day.
“To get back on the podium again felt good and getting some early points on the board for Olympic qualification was important for me.
“I am looking forward to six weeks of final preparations before the Masters at the end of the year.”
