Paul Jones from Four Crosses has won the Yorkshire Under 25 Bowling competition.

Jones is studying for his PhD at York University and represented Yorkshire in a Northern Counties competition and an all England competition.

Jones is a former player of Llansantffraid Bowling Club.

Meanwhile Penybont Short Mat Bowls Club won the Brecon and Radnor charity triples event at Llandrindod wells Bowls Centre.

The event saw 11 sides contest the silverware but it was the team of Mary Bufton, Sylvia Price and Derwyn Powell who prevailed.

The event also raised over £100 for Wales Air Ambulance.

Meanwhile the indoor bowls season is well underway across Powys.

Severn Valley have reformed after four years hiatus with the Welshpool based club marking their return with a 92-74 shot victory over a visiting Ffrith.

President Mike Beloe said: “We have so many talented bowlers in the region, many have played for Wales at indoor and outdoor level, so it seemed a real tragedy they were not performing for the club.

“It is early days but the signs are hopeful.

“The newly refurbished bowls hall made for an excellent surface and the club thanks Freedom Leisure and Powys County Council for producing a superb match venue.”

Team of the day was the rink skipped by Carl Pryce with Shaun Tulloch, Tony Hall and Wil James completing a 35-12 victory which included a ‘hot shot’ eight.

Severn Valley are next in action on Saturday with a trip to Flint.
