Montgomery Cricket Club celebrated the 2018 season at their annual awards dinner and dance.

With the club’s first team winning the Shropshire T20 Junior Slam and finishing runners-up in the second division of the Henshalls Shropshire League there was a lot to celebrate.

Chairman, John Barker praised the efforts of both teams, supporters and everyone involved behind the scenes.

The event even saw two visitors from Montgomery, Texas, USA, join the celebrations as part of their holiday to the United Kingdom.

The awards were presented to:

First Team Batsman of the Season: Ieuan Griffiths. Griiffiths scored 646 league runs at an average of 35.89.

First Team Bowler of the Season: Sam Williams. Williams took 33 league wickets at an average of 10.06.

First Team Performance of the Season: Andrew Barker for his unbeaten 154 against Shrewsbury IIIs

First Team Fielder of the Season: Rob Bennett. Bennett was named best wicketkeeper in the division this summer.

Second Team Batsman of the Season: Matthew Jones. In his first season with the club, Jones scored 447 runs at an average of 44.70.

Second Team Bowler of the Season: Rob Yewdall. The club veteran took 28 second team league wickets at an average of 15.46.

Second Team Performance of the Season: Rob Yewdall. Yewdall made 59 runs and took four wickets against Knockin IIs; made 64 runs and took two wickets at Quatt IIs and six wickets against Alberbury IIs.

Second Team Fielder of the Season: Rob Yewdall. Yewdall claimed a phenomenal one handed take from close range against St George’s.

Young Player of the Season: Ieuan Griffiths with a t top score of 139 against Shrewsbury IIIs

President’s Trophy Clubman of the Year: Richard Jones. The club’s communications officer worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to raise the profile of the club, both in the mainstream media and social media.
