A PAIR of Newtown sisters have been selected for the prestigious British Archery Academy for the forthcoming season.

Seventeen year old Rhian and 15 year old sister Megan Costall will be attending the Archery GB Academy at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Telford next season.

The Newtown High School students, members of the Newtown based Hafren Foresters Archery Club, will receive eight hours coaching a month at the national archery camp.

Both are ranked among the top 10 in Wales with Rhian seventh and Megan just behind in eighth place in the Welsh women’s category.

Last weekend both girls won gold at the Welsh Junior Indoor Championships in Newcastle Emlyn.

Both represented Wales at the Archery GB Junior National Outdoor Championships in the summer and helped their country to second place while Megan ended 12th in the under 16s event and Rhian finished 11th in the under 18s.

The sisters also competed at the annual Archery GB Youth Festival with Rhian narrowly missing out on a medal in the women’s cadet event while Megan was part of the team which took good alongside Junior Olympian Alyssia Tromans-Ansell.

The girls are currently setting their sights on December’s Archery GB Junior National Indoor Championships in Warwickshire.

Both are grateful to Hafren Foresters, Radnor Foresters, Newtown Rotary Club and coaches Gavin McKinnell and Liz Norton for their support.
