NEWTOWN manager Chris Hughes has urged the Robins faithful not to get carried away following an electric start to the JD Welsh Premier campaign.

A 100 per cent home record continued with victory over Barry Town United last week as the Robins climbed to third in the table.

The Robins now embark on their latest Friday night treks with a trip to Bala Town tonight (Friday) before making the trip to Caernarfon Town the following week.

With a place in the top six the Robins’ pre-season target their bright start to the campaign has filled supporters with hope of achieving their aim and even exceed their expectations which have long been restricted by the smallest budget in the league.

However Hughes reminded supporters the season remained young.

“We are still a work in progress,” said Hughes. “It was three points against an excellent Barry Town team and we can take heart from it. They didn’t hurt us with an attempt on goal and that is credit to the lads.

“They put their bodies on the line and you need to do that in this league to get three points.

“We go again next week and this result will means nothings so we need to go again.”

Star midfielder Alex Fletcher has played a key role in the Robins excellent end to last season and strong start to the new campaign.

Fletcher, in his second spell at Latham Park following a brief spell at Southport last season, said: “”Everyone wants to be in that top six. We want to play against the top teams after the split.

“We want to be in the top half come January. We know it will be a challenge but we have had a good start and a good run of performances which we want to continue.

“We have big games to come though and we want this form to continue.”

Fletcher added: “Every game in the Welsh Premier is a tough game but especially against Bala as they have some very good players and a perfect record at home. I’m really enjoying playing in the Welsh Premier with nothing between the teams from top to bottom.”
