DELYTH Astley starred with an opening day brace as Llanfair Caereinion stunned derby rivals Newtown 6-1 in the North Wales Women’s League.

Mary Griffiths, Ffion Lewis and Ellen Jones also netted while 13 year old Hannah Shirley-Smith marked her senior debut with a goal while Heidi Langford reduced the arrears for Town.

Elsewhere Welshpool made the long trek home from Pwllheli with an opening day share of the spoils following a goalless draw.

Pool played their part in an end to end encounter but defences ended on top as the Mid Wales side returned home with a point.

Meanwhile Presteigne opened their South Wales Women’s Premier League Two campaign with a solitary Meg Cosgrove strike earning a 1-0 win at Rhondda.

Presteigne maintained their winning start to the season with a 2-1 win at home to Pembroke with goals from Felicity Collins and Beth Watson completing the home side’s fightback.

Elsewhere Radnor slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Cardiff University IIs in division one of the South Wales Women’s League.

Newtown toasted a 4-1 win at Wednesbury in the premier league of the North East Midland Men’s League.

Tom Hillidge broke the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes following a flowing passing move with Andy Denham on target to double the lead before the break.

Denham doubled his tally early in the second-half only for the Mid Wales side to concede after losing their focus soon after.

However with five minutes to go Oscar Crutchley struck to settle the outcome as Newtown celebrated the points.

Meanwhile Powys will host holiday camps throughout the county during the forthcoming school break.

Brecon Leisure Centre hosts a camp on Monday, October 29 with Llandrindod Wells staging the event on Tuesday, October 30 and Newtown’s Maldwyn Leisure Centre on Thursday, November 1.

The camps are open boys and girls of all abilities aged between seven and 12 at the cost of £20 per child with each of the camps starting at 10am and ending at 3pm.
