Montgomery 95-4 beat Wellington IIIs 90 all out by six wickets

Patrick Fletcher starred with a career best five wickets as Montgomery finished their Shropshire Division Two campaign in style against Wellington IIIs.

The result confirmed Monty runners-up spot to champions Ellesmere but with the county’s cricketing landscape set for a restructure next season the Lymore-based club still do no know which league they will be members next season.

Batting first, Wellington were dismissed for just 90 runs as Fletcher (5-23) made light work of the attack with Kamal Aluthgedara (35) top scoring.

David Ross (2-10) took two early wickets in reply before Ieuan Griffiths capped off a fine season with the bat by making 39 runs and Aaron Ruff-Cock (13no) guided Monty over the line in the 20th over.

Griffiths’ final day knock ensured he ended the club’s top scorer with 646 runs, just ahead of Andrew Barker with 623.

Meanwhile captain Sam Williams claimed the most wickets with 33 scalps while Eddie Bennett and Aaron Ruff-Cock each claimed 26.
