Guilsfield 130 all out lost to Quayside 131-4 by six wickets

GUILSFIELD’S season ended with a whimper in a six wicket defeat at home to Quayside.

Dave Lewis opened brightly for the hosts before departing to Matthew Harris for 30.

Ian Dalton (2-22) removed the rest of the Guils top order before Dave Williams led middle order defiance.

Williams was finally caught by Brenton Fairey off the outstanding Harris (6-34) for 40 to leave the villagers defending 130.

Guilsfield looked to make early inroads with Hugh Curteis (3-33) including opener Jamie White (44) in his haul.

However Paul Harris (47no) carried his bat with Neil Williams (19) chipping in to steer Quayside to 131-4 and victory in the 33rd over and ensure Guilsfield had to be content with a top four finish.

Captain Andy Trow said: "It's been a season of two halves with a promising first half seeing us competing for the promotion places, however the season caught up with our small squad and we have had a challenging second half to the season leading to us finishing in a disappointing fourth place.

"The season has been a real challenge down to a lack of key players especially the bowling unit.

"Players leaving the club, long term injuries and players making themselves unavailable have all led to dropped points in key matches.

"A big thank you to all our sponsors and the Oak for providing great teas and being great hosts."

Attention now shifts to the end of season restructure of Shropshire cricket.

With mass relegations from the Birmingham League a ripple effect is expected for the Shropshire League pyramid.

Proposed changed will also see the return of reserve sides currently competing in the Birmingham Reserve League return to the four regional feeder county leagues.

The changes are geared at raising the standard of competition and facilities across the region.
