Welshpool 100 all out lost to Condover 161-9 by 61 runs

WELSHPOOL suffered a dismal end to their season with a 61 run defeat at home to bottom of the table Condover.

The omens were promising after visiting opener Simon Dodds was caught by Paul Chapman off Joe Monk for one early on.

Surviving opener Charlie Rogers (26) was joined by Robbie Barker (14) in a 33 run second wicket stand before both fell to Monk to leave Condover 42-3.

Stephen Barker (21) and Andy Mottram (18) combined in a 39 run fourth wicket partnership only to fall in quick succession with both caught by Greg Jones off James Breese (2-27).

A 52 run fifth wicket partnership between Jordan Barker (35) and Andrew Hodgkiss (21) proved crucial with the duo combining to work the scoreboard and push their side to 154-8 when both became victims of Matt McWhinnie (3-27).

Monk completed his 4-38 with Richard Gilbert caught by Chapman for four to leave Jon Mansell (2no) unbeaten and Condover defending 161-9.

Nick Davies and Chapman combined in a 44 run opening wicket stand in reply.

However when Davies was caught by Jordan Barker off Jamie McVittie for 25 it sparked a total collapse.

McVittie(6-28) tore through the home order which went from 44-1 to 70-7 when Chapman’s defiance was ended by Robbie Barker for 19 with Barker completing his 2-15 with the prompt dismissal of Rupert Redway for a duck.

Jones (12) and McWhinnie (13) offered tail end defiance before falling to Matt Farr (1-9) and Richard Gilbert (1-17) respectively as Pool’s dismissal for 100 was completed in the 31st over of their reply.
