Carmarthen Town 3 Newtown 0

NEWTOWN suffered a crushing defeat at Carmarthen Town as their unbeaten start to the campaign came to an end.

The Robins started with the confidence of an unbeaten side with Ethan Jones heading Nick Rushton’s cross over the bar before cutting inside on 1 minutes only to be denied by the post.

Jones continued to be a menace and latched onto Joe Kenton’s 25th minute cross only to fire over.

However Carmarthen almost led against the run of play five minutes later with Liam Thomas twice denied in as many minutes by a goal preventing block from Kieran Mills-Evans and point blank save from Jones.

The Robins failed to heed the warning and moments later Luke Bowen headed home to break the deadlock.

Neil Mitchell and Alex Fletcher both spurned efforts either side of the interval but the Robins were left with a mountain to climb on the hour when Jordan Vickers broke down the right wing to cross for Bowen to complete his brace.

Newtown tried in vain to gain a foothold in the game but struggled to penetrate a well drilled home defence which restricted the Robins to half chances and long range shots.

It was all over with 15 minutes remaining with Luke Cummings crossing from the left for Thomas to head home and settle the outcome.

Newtown went for broke with Luke Boundford and Sam Phillips both thrown into the mix but despite dominating the remainder of the contest the Robins could find no way through the resolute hosts and returned home empty handed.
