Builth Wells 32 Seven Sisters 10
BUILTH Wells laid down an early marker for the season with an opening day win over Seven Sisters at the Groe.
The Bulls defended stoutly early on and weathered pressure to lead with Ben Pugh crossing the whitewash with Dan Davies converting.
The opening score lifted the home pack which gained control of the contest and soon led to Pugh crossing for a second try.
Despite Sisters reducing the arrears with a converted try and penalty of the own the home side responded with two penalties from the boot of Davies to establish an eight point interval lead
Wayne Morris led Builth’s dogged defence as Seven Sisters piled on the pressure after the break.
Frustration crept into the Sisters team, culminating in two penalties for Builth with Davies maintaining his excellent display with the boot.
Builth completed their victory with a superb try from Harry Jenkinson who leapt to collect the ball in mid air before storming under the posts with Davies adding the extras.
Coach Ben Duggan said: “I am very pleased.
“It was a fantastic team performance and the defence from the Bulls empowered the whole team throughout the day.”
