Llandudno 0 Newtown 0

NEWTOWN endured a frustrating afternoon as Llandudno dug in for a draw at Maesdu Park.

The match began with a seventh minute melee, sparked by a tackle from Jay Denny, which led to a player from both sides earning a caution.

Once play resumed it was the Robins on top with Joe Kenton lashing over the bar following Alex Fletcher’s 12th minute throughball.

Leo Smith curled wide at the other end as Llandudno struggled to penetrate a Newtown defence patched up in the absence of the suspended Craig Williams.

Such defensive frailties were almost exposed at the end of the half with John Owen dispossessing Ben Bailey only to drag his shot wide.

Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones was in the thick of the action with saves to deny Owen and Shaun Pearson.

Having rode out the storm the Robins dominated the second-half with Neil Mitchell firing wide before Kieran Mills-Evans headed wide from a corner.

However chances continued to be spurned with Kenton failing to find the target with a header for Newtown before Steve Hewitt blasted wide for the hosts.

Newtown introduced Luke Boundford and ex-Wrexham player Steve Leslie for the final stages but neither could force a breakthrough.

A second altercation, this time between Leslie and home defender Kai Edwards, followed soon after.

Llandudno could have snatched glory at the death with Mark Connelly heading over the bar with the goal at his mercy as the match ended goalless.
