Wee Wonders

MORE than 20 of the region’s emerging golfers took part in the Powys Wee Wonders Golf Championships at Builth Wells Golf Club.

The youngsters each had 36 shots to complete the nine hole course and produced a high standard of golf.

The Wee Wonders Championships is organised by Powys County Council’s Sports Development Unit as part of its strategy to increase participation.

Ciaran Price beat Builth Wells clubmate Tom Offa to glory in the Year 8/9 boys event with Llanidloes’ Guto Thomas-Young second.

Llanelwedd’s Thomas Edwards topped the Year 6/7 boys events with Gwernyfed’s Owen Price-Davies leading the challenge while Irfon Valley’s Hali Rae-Morris won the Year 6/7 girls event.

Llanelwedd’s Harry Edwards won the Year 4/5 boys race with Builth Wells’ Dafydd Price taking second and Reuben Baker of Cefnllys ending third.

Joshua Alderton of Knighton won the Year 2/3 boys competition with Builth Wells’ Aled Davies second Harry Selly-Watkins of Llanidloes ending third while Llanelwedd’s Chloe Edwards won the Year 2/2 girls event.

St Idloes

KATIE Hamer-Grew (13) won the St Idloes ladies’ monthly medal with a nett 66 to see off the challenge of Cheryl Hamer (18) with 68 and third placed Vivien Williams (28) with 69.

Llanymynech

Diana Chadwick (31) won the Llanymynech ladies’ Barnes Bowl with a nett 68 with Beverley Cadwallader (13) beating Rachel Pritchard (10) on the countback with 70.

St Giles

MIKE Davies (16) won the Barry Waters Trophy with 39 points with Benny Rimmer (20) ending second with 37 and Ken Morgan (23) third with 34.

Meanwhile Mike Lovell (23) won the August Medal with a nett score of 59 to blow away the rest of the field led by Graham Evans (14) who beat John Cufley (12) on the countback with 68.
