NEWTOWN IIs maintained their promotion bid with a seven wicket win at home to Broseley in division two of the Henshalls Shropshire Reserve League.

Danny Foulkes (1-35) wasted little time in removing opener Callum Bailey for a duck before Kelvin Rogerson was joined by Tony Rowlands in a 45 run second wicket stand.

Rogerson was caught by Jonathon Davies off Brandon Baynham (1-14) for 21 and was soon joined back in the pavilion by Lee Boden, caught by Jack Williams off Alan Jones for a duck.

Davies (1-24) dismissed Chris Lloyd) before Rowlands was joined by Andrew Platt in a 77 run fifth wicket stand.

Jones completed his 3-26 with the dismissal of Platt for 43 to leave Rowlands (59no) and Broseley left defending 151-6.

Dai Brown (14) and Matt Humphreys (14) supported Ricky Davies who guided Town to 106-3 before falling to Bailey for 41.

However Newtown were not to be denied with Sam Morris and Richard Smout forming an unbroken fourth wicket stand to steer their side to 156-3 in the 36th over.

Meanwhile Matt Sherwood and Harry Bowen shared the plaudits in Welshpool IIs thumping 127 run victory at home to Quatt IIs in division three.

Sherwood carried his bat with a superb 118 with supporting knocks from Dale Evans (36) and Jonathan Penrose (30) helping Pool to 235-7 to defend.

Bowen (4-14) terrorised Quatt in reply while Adam Gannon (2-15) claimed Liam Preece for a top scoring 46 and Allam Williams (2-34) polishing off Quatt for 107.

Elsewhere Alberbury IIs completed an eight wicket win at Wem IIs in division one.

Despite the best efforts of the visitors with Steve Morris (3-17) leading the attack the home side posted an imposing 210-7 to defend thanks to Richard Mellings who carried his bat with a top scoring century.

Joss Elliott (77no) carried his bat in reply with support from Dominic Zaza (40) and James Harrap (44) before being joined by Sahim Zaza (23no) in an unbroken third wicket stand to guide Alberbury to 212-2 in the 36th over.
