Conwy Borough 1 Guilsfield 2
ANDY Ford was the unlikely match winner as Guilsfield opened their campaign on a high at newly promoted Conwy Borough.
Having been tipped to struggle this season by North Wales football pundits the Guils took just nine minutes to silence their doubters with Robbie James’ looping header from Adam Jenkins’ free-kick hanging in the Morfa wind before dipping under the bar.
The Guils handed summer signing James Parry his debut in a youthful defensive line-up which also included fellow teenager Callum Weetman.
The duo, along with the more experienced James and Callum Bromley, kept the hosts at bay until the last act of the half when Corrig McGonigle volleyed home after the Guils failed to clear a long throw.
Neither side imposed themselves in a scrappy second-half with few clear openings.
However with 13 minutes remaining Bromley’s inch perfect right wing cross was met by Ford to head beyond home goalkeeper Guto Hughes.
Borough ended the match with 10 men following the late dismissal of Anthony Marshall as the villagers saw out the game to return to Mid Wales with maximum points.
GUILSFIELD: Andrew, Bromley, Parry, Rogers, Weetman, James, Cathrall, Ford, Blenkinsop, Jenkins (Harris), Richards (Clifton). Subs: Leonard, Litchfield.
