BUILTH Wells endured a weekend to forget with back to back defeats in division one of the GB Liners Marches League, starting with a 227 run defeat at Goodrich.

Rory Jackson starred with a knock of 112 with support from James O’Brien (62) and Tom Bilson (43) before Andrew Brown (53no) and Joe Provis (41no) formed an unbroken fifth wicket stand to steer Goodrich a massive 359-4 to defend.

Builth fell for just 132 in reply with Aled Powell (24), Richard Davies (19) and Andrew Claridge (16) top scoring while Provis (3-24), Chris Abell (2-40) and Ellis Rutsch (2-21) led the wicket haul.

The Bulls produced a much improved batting display on Sunday in the GB Liners Marches Twenty20 Knock Out Cup.

Steve Anderson (64) and Richard Galton (53) laid the foundation by leading their side to 212 to defend at Canon Frome whose attack was led by Ed Kemp (5-64) and David Shorter (3-42).

Despite the best efforts of Eurig Towns (2-23) in reply the hosts were guided to 215-4 and glory in the 34th over by James Manley (67), Kemp (65) and Nick Griffiihs (48) as Builth were left to focus on their remaining league campaign.

Meanwhile Presteigne slipped to a four wicket defeat at Garnons IIs in division three.

Mark Ammonds (82) was joined by Lee Traylor (30) and Robin Sparey (37) in defying Darren Ford (5-32) and help their side post 194-7 to defend.

Gary Rhodes snared Ed Pearson-Gregory LBW for 15 while Andrew Matthews was caught by Alan Stocker off Traylor for 19 as Garnons suffered an indifferent start to their reply.

However the home side’s innings was revived by James Gittins who swung the game in Garnons favour before being caught by Stocker off the impressive Rhodes (4-43) for a top scoring 75.

Ford was caught by William Barthalomew off Traylor (2-65) before Jack Cotterell (20no) and Russell Howells (23no) formed an unbroken seventh wicket partnership to steer the home side side to 195-6 and victory in the 36th over.
