Welshpool 196 all out lost to Shelton 248-5 by 52 runs

WELSHPOOL’S valiant batting display went unrewarded in a 52 run defeat at Shelton.

Pool were given a daunting target to chase with opener Eugene McCarney (77) joined by Ben Matthews (83no) in guiding the hosts to a commanding 248-5 to defend.

James Breese (3-59) was the pick of the Pool attack and included McCarney in his haul with Patrick Davies taking the catch while Joe Monk (1-13) and Matt McWhinnie (1-58) also struck.

Paul Chapman (28) and Nick Davies (25) began brightly in reply only for Ross Griffiths to strike while Dan Chodecki was trapped LBW by Ben Chambers for 36.

Griffiths (5-61) removed Pool’s middle order but found Pool captain Russell Cadwallader in formidable form and rolled back the years before being caught by Harry Jones off Chambers (4-15) for a top scoring 60 as Pool’s challenge ended for 196 in the 39th over.
