NEWTOWN overcame old rivals Aberystwyth in the final to be crowned Sion Wyn Sevens champions in Machynlleth last weekend.

Town beat Aberystwyth before losing to Aberaeron with and sealing their progress with convincing victories over Llangefni and Dolgellau.

Town strolled to a 31-5 victory over hosts Machynlleth in the quarter-final before tries from Josh Jones, Rhys Williams, Twm Jones and a gasp drop goal from Will Holloway sealed a 19-12 victory over Aberaeron to book a place in the final.

Newtown met Aberystwyth in the final in a repeat of last season’s final.

Newtown never looked back after Dafydd Thomas crossed for the opening try with Huw Spear adding a second with both converted by Holloway.

Despite Aberystwyth reduced the arrears Newtown were not to be denied with Jac Benyon-Thomas completing the try count with Holloway’s extras settling a 21-5 win.
