LLYN Clywedog near Llanidloes celebrated 50 years as a fly fishing venue with a 14 team competition last weekend.

A total of 14 four man teams descended on the lake from across the United Kingdom with a large cash prize up for grabs.

Coming out victorious in a keenly contested final and taking home a cheque for £1,000 were the Welsh Hawks with 52 fish for 107lb 6oz.

In second place were Scierra UK who picked up £750 with 51 fish for 106lb 5oz while the Ringers secured £500 for third place with 49 fish for 98lb 1oz.

Top rod on the day with 14 fish for 32lb 2oz was Mike Dixon of Staffordshire who earned the £500 prize.

Welsh international Alice Davies of Llandeilo picked up a cool £250 for the heaviest fish with a rainbow trout of 7lb 8oz.
