Newtown 171 all out lost at Worfield 280-4 by 109 runs

NEWTOWN were brought back to earth following their recent revival with a 109 run thrashing at Worfield.

Tom Anderson (2-50) struck early with openers Tom Whitney (13) and Oliver Gilks (3) both caught behind by wicketkeeper Sam Cooke.

However a 174 run third wicket stand between Harvey Sage and Mick Hudson punished Town.

Sage posted 17 fours before being run out for 94 with Hudson completing his century to push his side to 242-4 upon his fall to Jack Morris (1-37) for 106.

Bryn Simmons (30no) and Ryan Quiney (21no) formed an unbroken fifth wicket stand to guide Worfield to a commanding 280-4 to defend.

Morris (44) led Town’s reply with a supporting knock from Anderson (22) before his own departure to Ben Parker (1-15) left the Welsh side on just 1010-4.

Ryan Quiney (3-18) and Dale Quiney (2-53) led the home side’s attack while Ally Laird’s middle order resistance was ended by Matthew Rees (1-51) for 18.

Tail ender Ryan Davies (15no) dug in but Joseph Arnold (2-0) toasted the stumping of Dave Anthony by Bryn Simmons for 21 to complete Newtown’s demise for 171.
